The Jazz Exchange Education Program -

Candice Reyes and her husband Abel Mireles build bridges between communities through music education. 

June 2020

Founders Candice Reyes and Abel Mireles are supporting Emerging Artists from their hometown El Paso and Juarez area, by connecting them with performance and music educational opportunities outside of their communities. This year in 2020 students will participate in the Jazz in July Summer Program with partner Jazz House Kids from July 13 through August 7th.

The United States Army Veterans All Stars return to SOPAC for a night of music. 

November 2019

The United States Army Veterans All Stars will present a lively program of popular Jazz favorites and patriotic songs in an honorable tribute to veterans of all wars. Come and join the musical celebration! Presented by the Seton Hall University Arts Council & the College of Communication and the Arts as part of their Jazz ‘n the Hall Series on Tuesday, November 12th!

Montclair Jazz Festival 2019

A Night of Jazz: JAZZ HOUSE KiDS Alumni All-Stars, Candice Reyes CRQ, and The Oscar Perez Quintet

This outdoor summer event will fill the streets of Montclair, NJ with music and get our community swinging. Candice Reyes Quintet (CRQ) brings a youthful and refreshing sound to jazz. The vocalist performs actively in the tri-state area with the CRQ and released their newest album under The Jazz Exchange LLC “Your Way” features six-time GRAMMY award winner and jazz renowned bassist Christian McBride, which also featured GRAMMY nominee Nathan Eklund on trumpet.

Montclair Center Stage’s weekly music series invites longtime residents and visitors alike to enjoy the best in live, local music every Saturday on Church Street from May to September. Weather permitting.

CRQ debuts their new album "Your Way" in New York City! 

June 2019 

Candice Reyes Quintet will debut their newest album "Your Way" on Wednesday, July 31st at one of the newer jazz clubs in New York City called Birdland  Theater located on the lower level, is an intimate, cabaret-style venue with a classic bar​. This will be their first debut of the new album in NYC. The band will be performing music from their album, originals and new music. CRQ will feature guest artist and trumpeter Nathan Eklund for the evening show.

Candice is a Latina jazz vocalist from El Paso, Tx who has rapidly grown in the New Jersey and New York City music scene. The young vocalist composes music and lyrics for this group. Abel Mireles, saxophonist and arranger of the newest album "Your Way" and husband to Reyes has also been gaining a reputation as building his career in the Tristate area. The dynamic duo are also curators and founders of The Jazz Exchange, is an organization committed to narrowing the gap between jazz and the community while creating a platform for established and upcoming jazz musicians. Abel and the rhythm section of the CRQ are all William Paterson alumni. Purchase your tickets today for the CD Release show.

El Paso Jazz Girls - Summer Program 2019! 

June 2019 

El Paso Jazz Girls is a program for young female musicians to learn about jazz, meet each other, play together, and create a support system. Our mission is to empower girls in a supportive community that fosters self-expression, confidence, and collaboration through music education and performance.

​

Amanda Ekery founded El Paso Jazz Girls to create a practical, direct intervention for gender equality in her hometown's jazz community. Candice Reyes will be featured as one of the teaching artists amongst other local teaching artists for the 2019 summer program in El Paso, Tx. Registration is open to students grades 7-12 who identify as female. Open to ALL instruments and vocalists!

CRQ performs live and gets interviewed by Nations #1 College Radio Station "Brave New Radio " 88.7 FM at William Paterson University. The band performed music from their newest album "Your Way" along with a live interview by the radio station. CRQ bringing some new music that is not on the album and continue to promote their tour later this year.

New Music: Candice Reyes Quintet Drops New Album, “Your Way”

December 21, 2018

The album—which hit CD Baby and iTunes on December 16—features a collection of talented musicians with an array of backgrounds. It includes six-time Grammy award winner and renowned jazz bassist Christian McBride and trumpet player Nathan Eklund. Abel Mireles, a native of Ciudad Juarez, produced the album and also contributed his signature saxophone riffs. Abel also recently performed with country singer Martina McBride for the Lighting of the Tree at Rockefeller Center and at the Times Square New Year’s ball drop with John Legend.

Since 2015 El Paso-born jazz vocalist Candice Reyes and her quintet have been disclosing their newest project “Your Way” in New York and New Jersey. The newest album includes original compositions and arrangements produce by Juarez native saxophonist Abel Mireles. The album “Your Way” reflects on emotions and challenges encountered in one’s journey through life.

Candice Reyes Quintet performs at 3rd Festival Internacional de Jazz Chihuahua

Candice Reyes and her Quintet, performed at the 1st international jazz festival held in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua for the third year that Chihuahua held this jazz festival, but the first time Ciudad Juarez jumped on board. Big names in the jazz scene attended this festival, while local jazz groups openend up the festival. Candice Reyes Quintet performed for the first time at this amazing festival. The group got to show off their distinctive sound to original arrangments and compositions. The group was exposed to wide variety of jazz lovers across the border and country.
